Weekend Update

Katrina spared the Bay Area and actually brought some pleasant weather for us--well, at least a slight breeze. Unfortunately, Louisiana and Mississippi have not been so lucky, and I feel so terrible for them. Every day that goes by means we are that much closer to the end of hurricane season, and I pray this will be the last storm.

I don't know what was more painful this weekend- losing money, the resultant headache of an all-nighter, or watching Coldplay last night on the MTV VMAs (they sounded awful!). Actually, I take that back...R. Kelly absolutely takes the cake for most excruciating moment of my weekend. I
had to cover my eyes in embarrassment and anxiety caused by this "Rufus!'/Rufus says, 'Kathy!'/Chuck says, 'Rufus!'/Rufus says, 'Chuck!'/Then Kathy grabs Rufus" monstrosity! I think I blacked out for a good 10 seconds from the sheer horror of it all. Can someone please stop this man? Put him in the damn closet and lock it.

Anyway!! Friday, Monte and I went for drinks and dinner with a big group to celebrate Beverly's birthday--with intentions of going home after the meal. However, being that we went out with
these couples, we rolled into the house at 4:45 in the morning. They are great people, but always have a way of coercing us into a marathon-of-a-night, which we pay for severely the next day. This time we really paid for it. We ended up at the Hard Rock Casino and went a little too crazy with the nickel slots and Captain & diets. I definitely prefer my life before I knew what “Bet max” meant and how it feels to win that much cash (yay!) and then see it disappear within 18 seconds (boo!). Gambling is sad. But such a rush when you are up. It's just too much for me. Needless to say, Saturday was pretty much shot. It involved drinking lots of water, napping several times, and grazing the kitchen all day. So, Sunday we were rested and looking for something to do without spending another nickel. We won season passes to Busch Gardens a few months ago and it's only five minutes from our house—so it was perfect. Last time we went for the big coasters and free beer, but this time we were more in the mood for the fresh air and the animal sanctuary. It was awesome. I felt like a little kid again! The chimps and gorillas are always my favorite, but this time I also fell in love with a meerkat. Here he is:

Overall, the weekend felt really long and was a lot of fun, which was exactly what I needed. Hopefully, I can make it through the next 5 days without the drama of last week just in time for another fun weekend. "Ev'rybody's workin' for the weekend..." Don't you know that song by Loverboy?

3 Shout outs:

  • Weekends are usually a mixed bag...the good, the bad, and the ugly...It sounds like yours was a roller coaster but then that's why we love amusement parks, right?
    Meercats rule!
